Moving 8th Note Strumming

This lesson builds on the Windshield Wiper motion and introduces your first exercise: the Moving 8th Note Strum.

How it Works

We start with simple quarter notes:

1 2 3 4

Then we add one upstroke at a time, placing it after each downbeat:

• 1 + 2 3 4
• 1 2 + 3 4
• 1 2 3 + 4
• 1 2 3 4 +

Focus on keeping the strumming motion continuous and relaxed, even when you’re not hitting the strings.

Work through all four variations until they feel comfortable.
